Mount Pleasant Cocktail Week 2024 is the inaugural 5 day event in the Mt. Pleasant Neighborhood of Washington DC where enthusiasts and bartenders can come together to celebrate and explore the world of craft cocktail and bartending along the Mt. Pleasant Street Corridor that features an eclectic mix of restaurants and bars reflecting the neighborhood’s diverse and vibrant character. This event is an opportunity for the businesses and residents of one of Washington DC’s most unique neighborhoods to come together, network, share knowledge, and to give back to the neighborhood and community that supports us. The main goal of this event is to make improvements in the restoration and preservation of Mount Pleasant by promoting our dynamic cocktail and beverage scene and draw more traffic to the whole commercial corridor.
Conceptualized by Jose Cox - lead bartender from La Tejana and David Strauss - owner of OKPB with help from Mount Pleasant District Bridges Main Street and Daniel Murgueytio of Le Mont Royal - this first annual event will offer an array of local hospitality operators, each showcasing one of the different restaurants and bars on Mt. Pleasant Street. Attendees can mingle with bar staff and sample a varIety of drinks at the opening soirée. The following days will feature demonstrations and workshops led by local bartenders, offering insights into techniques and the art of the cocktail all aimed at the home bar enthusiast. There will be networking opportunities with attendees, home bartenders, and cocktail fans wanting to build skills and knowledge mingling with bar staff and owners. In the evenings, each of the venues will be offering a signature cocktail to showcase their style. Proceeds from the sale of these drinks will be used to make capital improvements in the Mt. Pleasant neighborhood and upon purchase guests will be entered into a raffle for prizes from the local shops. The Closing Ceremony will offer a Bloody Mary competition and a chance for all our working participants to express their gratitude and thanks to the attendees who can enjoy and vote on all the bars variations of the classic Hair of the Dog Cocktail. After the end of the afternoon our raffle winners will be called for prizes from Bold Fork Books, Nido, Each Peach, Irving Wines & Spirits, and OKPB.
Mt. Pleasant Cocktail Week will serve as both an educational and celebratory gathering, highlighting the creativity and skill involved in cocktail making while fostering connections between the diverse restaurants and residents in our neighborhood.
